The capital city of Japan “Tokyo” (called Edo until 19th)

Tokyo is the capital and the biggest city of Japan. Its population is about 13 million. It is one of the major economic centers of the world.
Tokyo
Tokyo was called “Edo” until 19th centuries. Edo was the center of samurai rule for about three centuries. This old name is still used sometimes. the people of Tokyo are sometimes called “Edokko”, which means “Kids of Edo”.
Edo period
Japanese culture was not influenced much by foreign countries when the government had the isolation policy from the 17th to the 19th century. Unique Japanese culture such as haiku and ukiyoe developed in Edo during this period.
