Japanese-style Tableware

Many different bowls and dishes are used for Japanese food. We use flat plates, rice bowls, soup bowls, and multipurpose bowls. We also have a Japanese-style teapot and teacups. On a table you will see small items like chopsticks, chopstick rests, and small plates that are used for dipping food in soy sauce.
You can lift your dish when eating. To do so, use the hand that is not holding the chopsticks. When lifting your cup of tea, try to hold the side of tea cup with one hand and support the bottom of the cup with the other hand. It is the best not to pick up the flat plates.
