Summer and Winter Gift-giving in Japan

Businesses and people in Japan send gift to others in July and December. These are annual customs. The gifts can be anything from towels to sake. These gift are given to show appreciation for someone’s support. For example, businesses give gifts to their customers, lawyers and accountants. A students of tea ceremony might give a gift to his or her teacher. A married couple may send a gift to relatives.
During the summer and winter gift-giving seasons, you will see special sections for gifts in department stores. Families often have special budgets for these gifts.
